In 2011, fans and critics alike, were caught off-guard by the surprisingly emotional origin story of Caesar the chimpanzee in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Brought to life via trailblazing motion-capture technology and the legendary Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), it laid the groundwork for how Caesar gained the intelligence to rise up against humanity. In this next installment, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) shows how Caesar leads a revolution. Check it out:

Geez. You ever get that uncomfortable feeling when you see a trailer, that they showed you the whole story?  Hopefully that’s only because they have confidence in the writing and do indeed have more set-pieces and twists in store. It’s easy to be confident in a cast featuring Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless), and Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Trilogy) all in a fight for human survival, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Now, I’m not wishing an apocalypse on anyone…but if I had my choice of post-apocalyptic worlds to visit, the one ruled by sentient apes would top my list. With that being said Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens July 11th, 2014.
