Every comic book character has it’s love interest that helps to define the character. Superman has Lois Lane. Spider-Man is destined to be with Mary Jane. And Daredevil has Elektra. Except in Matt Murdock’s case there is a twist, Elektra is also one of his greatest adversaries.
Daredevil’s first season kept much of the story, action, and characters, on the ground-level, as fans were privy to the most gritty world ever to be depicted in the MCU. The comic book world recently expanded for Daredevil with the announcement of Jon Bernthal joining the cast as the Punisher. The addition of Elektra signals that several iconic storylines from the comics may make their way on to the Netflix show. Particularly with rumors of Daredevil’s arch-nemesis Bullseye being included, following recent reports of Jason Statham dropping out of negotiations to play the character.
Elodie Yung has just been cast as one of the most iconic characters in all of Marvel Comics. Fans may recognize Yung from her role as Jinx in G.I. Joe Retaliation. She clearly is already skilled with katanas and red ninja outfits, so it seems like an easy casting call.
However, what set Daredevil apart from other TV shows, is the commitment to crafting a believable world supported by capable actors. It has yet to be seen if Yung has the acting chops to truly bring Elektra to life. But it looks as if the second season will be ramping up the level of action, based on all of the dynamic characters joining the cast. Here is the official press release from Marvel.
