This fall 20th Century Fox will be releasing their animated feature, The Book of Life. The film is being co-written and directed by Jorge Gutierrez (El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera) and is being produced and shepherded to the big-screen by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim). This latin-themed fairy tale is set on the Day of the Dead. It continues the trend of groundbreaking visuals in unexpected environments, following in the footsteps of films such as Rango.
It really seems that the cast is invested in the fun. Co-writer and director Gutierrez explained his goal as far as the film’s visuals (via THR):
“The mandate of this movie was: Our ‘Art of’ book is going to look exactly like the movie. And every artist poured their heart and soul into that idea.”
Clearly this film is going to be a visual treat. Hopefully the story and iconography will lead to this becoming a classic animated tale.
The film stars Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar), Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street), Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Placido Domingo, Cheech Marin, Gabriel Iglesias and more. Take a look:
