Patrick Stewart Confirms He Will Return as Professor X in WOLVERINE 3 and Talks “Old Man Logan”

Apparently, you can’t keep a good Professor X down. Actor Patrick Stewart has embodied the prime version of Professor Charles Xavier since the beginning of the century. He seemed irreplaceable until producer Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn struck gold by casting James McAvoy as the character in his early 20’s, in X-Men: First Class. It also seemed that Singer found the perfect way to complete Stewart’s journey in X-Men: Days of Future Past

In a recent interview with Collider, Stewart confirmed that he will appear in the third Wolverine solo film.

“There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”

It’s common knowledge that the upcoming Wolverine 3, will reunite actor Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold (The Wolverine), for what will be the final solo movie for Hugh Jackman. The internet has been abuzz trying to figure out what storylines will be adapted for the final adventure.

Jackman himself teased the “Old Man Logan” storyline during his appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. However, today during a interview, Stewart gave the clearest indication yet that they intend to adapt portions of the storyline.

“And the idea of an old Wolverine – I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the  case.”

The “Old Man Logan” arc takes place in the future, when most superheroes are dead or elderly. It is unclear how Professor X will live long enough to see Wolverine as an old man, who already ages slow and is over a hundred years old. This raises a series of questions that can probably only be answered after seeing the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Fox is building a complete X-Men universe with Deadpool and Gambit, however the events of X-Men: Apocalypse take place in the 80’s. Time travel and alternate timelines are a big part of the Apocalypse story in comics, so it is logical that they would somehow clarify the timeline in the movie.
