Director Scott Derrickson (Sinister) isn’t just assembling the hottest names in Hollywood to headline his movie, he is nabbing all the best thespians around to tell this fantastic tale of the supernatural. Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Dr. Stephen Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing the mercurial Baron Mordo, and Tilda Swinton has been cast against gender as the Ancient One. There are also strong rumors that Mads Mikkelsen has landed a role as a villain. Those collection of actors could entertain you simply by reading you the phone book…in morse code. So it will be fascinating to see how they bring to life this new corner of the Marvel cinematic universe that has barely been hinted at in the first three phases of films.

Most of the early casting attention went to Tilda Swinton when she landed the role of the Ancient One that defied gender. However, the Ancient One is certainly not the female lead of the movie. That role has now been confirmed to have been won by Rachel McAdams (True Detective) according to the latest report from The Wrap.

McAdams is an extremely versatile actress whose filmography ranges from The Notebook to Sherlock Holmes. It hasn’t been confirmed which character McAdams has been cast to play in the film, however early speculation points to her playing Clea. Clea is the pupil and lover of Strange, who is later revealed to have connections with the supernatural and the dark entity known as Dormammu. There will be a lot more to come on Doctor Strange since its scheduled release date is less than 14 months away. We will be sure to bring you the latest as the project ramps up for production.
