Ripple Through Time in the Trailer for ‘Predestination’

In a contest of the underrated, Ethan Hawke has to at least qualify as a medalist. For almost thirty years Hawke has been consistently on the scene, making memorable movies with outstanding performances. His filmography is full of acclaimed and off-beat choices, from Explorers, to Dead Poet Society, to Gattaca, Training Day and Boyhood, most projects are different and most of which, are largely entertaining. The latest effort reunites Hawke with the directors of Daybreakers, the Spierig Brothers. Their new film, Predestination, is a time-travelling thriller about a temporal agent who stops crime before it happens. The film spans from the 1930’s to the 1990’s. What seemingly begins as a time-traveling cat-and-mouse movie, spins into something much more unexpected.

The film is based on a short story by Robert A. Heinlein called, “All You Zombies.” The neo-noir movie brings to mind Looper, Minority Report, with a splash of The Butterfly Effect. While those three influences had various amount of critical success, the ideas that they brought to time-travel on film, were innovative. Movies that bend the space-time continuum are fun, if there are clears rules for the time-travelling within the film. While the teaser doesn’t give too much away in terms of plot. Its clear that it will be an emotional journey, that will put Hawke through some serious trauma. Enjoy the trailer:

Predestination comes to theaters January 9th, 2015.
