It’s interesting how many of the most acclaimed and well-respected actors of the 1990’s aren’t aging gracefully. In fact, they are going down in hail of bullets, while breaking limbs and karate chopping thugs in the windpipe. Denzel Washington scored a hit with The Equalizer this past fall. And Liam Neeson and his “particular set of skills” revitalized the genre in 2009’s, Taken. Now Sean Penn is stepping into the action arena with his own take on the genre in The Gunman.
Director Pierre Morel (Taken, District 13) hopes to bring the same magic touch to Penn’s career that he did for Neeson. They have assembled an awesome cast that makes the movie hard to go unnoticed. Javier Bardem (Skyfall) will face off against Penn, playing the villain of the film. Bardem seems to be having fun with his recent run of villainous roles. He has certainly shown that after No Country for Old Men, that he is not a one-trick pony when it comes to playing bad guys. Idris Elba joins the supporting cast and suddenly the movie could end up being something unique. Check out the trailer.
