The biographical film based on inventor Steve Jobs is shaping up to be something very special. It features a script written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and will be directed by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). Their next move was to secure one of the best actors of his generation to play the iconic Jobs. They recently cast Christian Bale (The Fighter, The Dark Knight Trilogy) to portray the Apple inventor. Bale’s fiery intensity seems to be a perfect match for the driven inventor. It is rumored that Seth Rogen is in negotiations to play the other co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak.
The move is reminiscent of when Martin Scorsese cast an actor known for mostly comedic performances to star against Leonardo DiCaprio, when he selected Jonah Hill, for The Wolf of Wall Street. Rogen is in the perfect point in his career where he can branch out and try to spread his dramatic wings. His last film Neighbors was a smash hit and he has The Interview coming in December. So even if he fails, he has the safety net of a huge fanbase.
If cast, Rogen couldn’t end up with a more talented combination of writer and director. Boyle also directed Rogen’s good friend and The Interview co-star James Franco to an Academy Award nomination. It really seems to be a low-risk gamble.
