Stan Lee Reveals His Favorite Marvel Cameo at Silicon Valley Comic Con

There isn’t an individual person who better personifies the magic and potential of superhero and comic book mythology than Stan Lee. The creator of Marvel Comics and most of the iconic characters, such as Spider-Man, the Hulk, and X-Men, who will live on forever. The PoG was lucky enough to attend the Silicon Valley Comic Con in San Jose, California over the past weekend where Stan the Man led a spirited panel about his career in the industry.

During a fan Q&A session, the legendary comics’ creator entertained audiences with his trademark wit and charisma. Lee was asked a variety of questions pertaining to both his career as a writer and as the world’s most famous cameo performer. One of which was “what was his favorite cameo performance?” Before he could give a serious response, he decided to make a public plea.

“That’s is a tough one, that is tough. You may not know it but I’ve done more than one cameo. In fact, somebody told me the other day, there are a lot of movie stars and so forth, but there’s only one guy who’s a cameo star. Right? I have the field all to myself! So, when they have the next academy awards…they better have a thing for the best cameo of the year… You people with great influence, the minute this panel is over, I expect you to contact your congressmen, senator you can tell Trump if you want to, I want that cameo award!”

At 93 years old, Lee is remarkably sharp and quick-witted. There is a reason that thousands of fans line up to hear him speak at conventions all over the country. He is a walking comic book historian with a wealth of stories and experiences in the industry. After playing around with the audience a little, he then answered honestly.

“I think it was the Avengers [Age of Ultron]. Where, em, I want to have a drink that Thor is drinking. And he says it would be too strong for me, and I say ‘come on’ and I drink it, and then in the next scene they are carrying me out. It’s typical of how I live my life anyway.”

There have been 12 movies released just in the Marvel cinematic universe. If you throw in Lee’s cameos from other Marvel Comics’ themed productions, he could have literally made a career from his appearances. Lee’s tongue-in-cheek comment about him living the life of a drunk, couldn’t be farther from the truth, as his work ethic and energy in his golden years is the stuff of legends. With Captain America: Civil War less than two months away, it will be fun to see what his next appearance has in store.
