For the past couple of weeks, there have been conflicting rumors about where and when fans will get to see footage of the new film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Original reports had the trailer attached to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, however that never quite made sense, since it would be bolstering solely their competitor’s ticket sales. Other speculated that it would be attached to the Disney produced Into the Woods. The latest report rumored that the trailer would debut in front of every movie, at every Regal cinema this holiday weekend. Well it seems that where there is smoke, there is indeed fire.
Earlier this morning, Regal Cinemas website unveiled a list of nine theaters that would be premiering the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer this weekend. Which is much lower than the original rumor speculated. At the current time, the specifics on how many theaters are going to actually be screening it are up in the air. Particularly since Regal Cinemas updated their website (clearly they have the same PR people as Marvel) in typical “Dammit Hydra” fashion hours after publishing the list.
It seems to be a certainty that the trailer will be in theaters very soon. There is not yet a confirmation on the release of the trailer on the internet. While it is a nice thought to premiere the trailer solely in movie theaters, so it can be experienced on the big screen. Unless Disney wants thousands of camera phone videos of the trailer circulating on the internet, expect it to appear in a galaxy near you around Thanksgiving or within days in high definition.
