The ‘Hitman: Agent 47’ Trailer Takes Aim and Doesn’t Miss!

For decades movie studios have struggled to adapt comic book stories from the page to the big screen. It wasn’t until the past ten years or so, when many comic book readers have come into power such as Marvel’s Kevin Feige, that the genre finally found its footing and was trusted to make quality films.

Videogame adaptations are the next untapped frontier in filmmaking. Much like the comic book movies of yesteryear, there have been a few notable box office hits such as the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil franchises. While there are some entertaining moments in those series, the movies’ quality is average at best. However, expect to see the genre expand over the next few years. Many are expecting Duncan Jones’ Warcraft movie to set a new bar for how to adapt the material, when it is released next year. So time will tell…

The newest upcoming attempt at the videogame-to-film genre is Hitman: Agent 47. This is a reboot of the film series that had its first attempt in 2007’s, Hitman, starring Thomas Olyphant as the famed assassin. The movie failed to make an impact when it was released and has already been largely forgotten. The newest iteration stars Rupert Friend (Homeland) as the unstoppable hitman, Agent 47. While the overall quality of the movie is still up in the air, it does appear that there will at least be some solid action sequences that will make you say, “No way that could really happen!” And sometimes that’s what the movies are all about. Enjoy the trailer.

Official Synopsis:

Based on the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, “Agent 47” is an all-new motion picture about an elite and genetically engineered assassin, known only by the last two digits – 47 – of a barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. His latest target is a young woman on the run from powerful and clandestine forces. The mission brings startling revelations about the lethal agent and his prey, hurtling them on a collision course with their pasts. And this time, his number may be up.

Hitman: Agent 47 arrives in theaters on August 28th, 2015.
