The return of director Peter Jackson to Middle-Earth has been met with mixed reactions. The newest trilogy of films based on J.R. Tolkien’s, The Hobbit, have been financial successes, but have not come close to the popular and cultural significance of the The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Many attribute fan’s apathy to Jackson stretching the story out over three films, by using other companion pieces of literature from Tolkien. Most agree that The Hobbit could have actually been told in a single film. However, New Line was a trendsetter in the trilogy business and they will not be denied three times the money. With all that being said, all of Jackson’s movies are technical achievements and have pushed the boundaries of special effects and visual story telling. This last chapter looks as if it will be as epic as you would hope it to be.
