Marvel opened the summer early with its smash hit Captain America: The Winter Solider, which to this day is still adding to its box office totals. It looks as if the studio looks to close the summer out strong as well, but on a much weirder note. Guardians of the Galaxy looks to push the limits of what the human brain can process by melding sci-fi, zany comedy, and overall wacky character designs. Marvel is now pulling out their marketing muscle highlighting Vin Diesel’s, Groot, and Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon. Both of those characters are sure to be fan favorites. The lighthearted tone and colorful art design bring to mind The Fifth Element. Will that pass today? Hopes are high for this film within the geek community. However it is yet to be seen if mainstream audiences are ready to take this big of a leap. One thing is for certain, we will all be getting a film that differentiates itself from the rest of Marvel’s library. That itself will be a thrill. Oh yea… and that talking raccoon is pretty sweet too…
