The Teaser Trailer for ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Has Arrived!

The Terminator franchise has been a rollercoaster of peaks and valleys. The first installment was a futuristic nightmare that fell nicely into the science-fiction realm. Although it was essentially a horror movie about the Boogeyman coming to get you…or Sarah Conner. Creator James Cameron deftly turned the series on it’s head when he released the revolutionary Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Cameron repurposed the killing machine from the future, as the protector and hero. The film took special effects and summer spectacle to new heights and since that point, the franchise has not even come close to duplicating the experiences Cameron crafted. Two more films followed, which declined in quality and reception until the franchise had been run into the ground.

Clearly Skydance Productions didn’t get the memo because they are making a sequel which reimagines the entire franchise. Director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones) takes on the fifth incarnation of the Terminator, with a screenplay written by Patrick Lussier & Laeta Kalogridis. Terminator: Genisys is bringing back the original Terminator model T-800, Arnold Schwartzenegger himself. There have been many questions surrounding how the actor will be able to portray a robot at his advanced age and of the overall direction of the film. Little of that is addressed in the teaser however. Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) plays John Conner who sends Kyle Reese, Suicide Squad’s Jai Courtney, back in to 1984 to protect his mother. Sarah Conner is played by Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke. And how odd is it that both the Conners and Clarkes, actually share the same last name?

Notice how they try to trick you into thinking that this is going to be Oscar worthy, by using the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes music from their trailer? (Check it out.) Yea, I said it…It is Oscar worthy. Moving on…

The film will be reimagining many of the same sequences and locations that fans of the originals remember, but will turn them upside down. The future was always depicted as a grimy hell-hole created by nuclear war and machines. The future shown in the trailer looked like they live and operate out of a Costco. Regardless, the adventure in the past looks like a fun ride. It will be interesting to see if Clarke can repurpose the iconic Sarah Conner for the 21st century. It took me off guard how much she did actually remind me of a young Linda Hamilton. Schwartzenegger has had a tough comeback in recent years and the way he seems to be lumbering through this role…actually feels kind of right. In any case, it can’t be worse than Terminator: Salvation. We will continue to bring you the latest on this one.
