The Wasp Confirmed to Appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Ant-Man is finally set to be released in a few weeks and interest in the movie has turned around after a long development process. Much of the talk has shifted from the departure of former writer and director Edgar Wright, to the seeming absence of Wasp in the marketing push and the announced cast of Captain America: Civil War. In the original comics the Wasp’s alter-ego was Janet Van Dyne, who not only is a founding member of the Avengers, but also is the one who named the team. The Wasp may not headline her own title, but the character holds an invaluable position in Marvel.

In the movie universe, most character’s origins have been modified for the big-screen. In Ant-Man Janet doesn’t appear in the present day and her character’s role is filled by Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope, the daughter of her and Hank. Many have speculated that Hope will assume the role of the Wasp in either the upcoming Ant-Man movie, or in future Marvel adventures. Marvel head Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the Wasp is indeed in the cards to Comicbook.com:

“We have plans for her in the future, and we see that not-so-subtly in this film [Ant-Man].”

At the very least it seems that we will get an origin for the Wasp in Ant-Man. The future plans for the character are up for speculation, however it is hard to imagine that she will not be joining the Avengers roster by the time Avengers: Infinity War Pt 2 rolls around. Marvel has been very methodical in planting seeds that will begin to blossom in their third phase of films kicking off next year. Marvel Comics past and present are combining to create the future of the Marvel cinematic universe and what an exciting time it is.
