Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman in the Newest Trailer for ‘Child 44’

Tom Hardy has found a nice groove in his acting career right now. He has been consistently pumping out strong performances in smaller character pieces, both in the states and abroad. In addition, he has already solidified himself in genre circles with his iconic performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Plus his celebrity status is about to rise astronomically, when he takes over the legendary lead role of Max in George Miller’s Fury Road this summer.

Before fans get to see Hardy in a post-apocalyptic future, they will get a chance to see him take on a role from the past. Daniel Espinosa may be familiar to American audiences as the director of Safe House, the surprise hit which starred Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. Child 44 is his newest film about a serial killer on the loose in Russia in 1953. Espinosa has assembled an amazingly talented cast including Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Joel Kinnaman (Robocop, The Killing), Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan). From the looks of the trailer, all of the actors have disappeared into their roles and it looks incredibly intense. Take a look.

Official Synopsis:

A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, “Child 44” chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa (Noomi Rapace), as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman) to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasil (Joel Kinnaman), who insists “There is no crime in Paradise.”

Child 44 opens on April 17th, 2015
