Superheroes are going to be firmly entrenched in the TV landscape beginning this fall and we have a flood of casting updates for you. Hold on to your seat, because there are a lot of awesome things taking shape in some of your new favorite shows!

 

Who is playing Stick in Marvel’s Daredevil?

Scott Glenn (The Bourne Ultimatum) has been cast as Stick. Fans of Marvel comics will know him as the character who trained young Matt Murdock, the future Daredevil, in the way of martial arts. As well as mentored him on how to embrace his disabilities and new-found gifts. Here is what Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb had to say about the acquisition:

“Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock’s life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero’s journey. There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt’s journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil.”

You also may remember Glenn from Sucker Punch, where he played a sensei/mentor type as well. It is true he has a sense of authority to him, so it does indeed feel like spot on casting. The cast and crew of the show are largely from the film world, so it is exciting prospect to wonder how cinematic the show will end up feeling.

 

What is the Newest Classic Villain Being Added to the Arrow/Flash Universe?

The creators of Arrow and The Flash have proven to be bold in their adaptation of the comic book world. They haven’t avoided many of the comic book trappings of the villains, particularly in the case of The Flash from early suggestions. Well, another one of the Flash’s classic enemies will be showing up on the small screen very soon.

Captain Boomerang, aka Digger Harkness, will be joining both television shows beginning with the seventh episode of Arrow and his story will be part of the epic crossover with The Flash in the eighth episode. He will be played by Spartacus alum, Nick Tarabay. According to EW, Harkness “will be a former A.R.G.U.S operative, highly skilled in martial arts and espionage, with a deadly thirst for vengeance against his former employers.”

Harkness is typically associated as being a Flash villain, however his particular set of skills, seems like a better fit for the world of Arrow initially. Perhaps in the crossover, he will be Arrow’s job to handle while the Flash has to go take care of something…really fast. We will find out in a couple of months.

 

Wait, they Cast Jarvis the Computer in Agent Carter?

Not exactly…

In the cinematic universe, J.A.R.V.I.S. was Iron Man’s artificial intelligence. As the series progressed he showed to be more than a digital butler, but also Tony Stark’s second set of eyes back at the homebase. In the comics, Jarvis was an actual butler that served Stark. Presumably to limit the comparisons to Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred they digitized him. However we will find out in the upcoming Marvel show Agent Carter, that the Jarvis we knew from the comics did exist, but in Howard Stark’s era. (Very clever Marvel.) Actor James D’Arcy has been cast as the real Jarvis.

Agent Carter will follow Peggy Carter, who was first introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger and will chronicle her adventures as a spy during the formation of S.H.E.I.L.D. Fans of the Marvel universe know that the organization was infiltrated by Hydra from the start, so this should shed more light on how that happened. It will be a ten-episode arc that is to air during Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.’s winter hiatus.

According to Marvel (via IGN), Jarvis will “help Peggy (Hayley Atwell) navigate her way through what may be her most dangerous mission yet.” So it seems he will be an active supporting character. It would be very rewarding for Avengers’ fans to see why he was so important to the Stark family. There will also be fun things to speculate and hopefully discover, such as, did they transfer his consciousness into a machine in the same way as Dr. Arnim Zola eventually did? Did he live to know a young Tony Stark? There could be serious foreshadowing for events to take place decades later in Age of Ultron.
