Marvel fans worldwide are impatiently scratching the days off of their calenders, counting down to the imminent release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The speculation over who will appear and what seeds are being laid for Captain America: Civil War has overshadowed the impending debut of another Marvel Comics’ superhero, Ant-Man.
It is actually very meta and fitting for the character of Ant-Man to go unnoticed and then deliver an unexpected blow. Guardians of the Galaxy, another Marvel property that was largely unknown to the general public before its release, was so quirky and weird that it compelled audiences to check out the circus. Up until now Ant-Man hasn’t moved the needle in the same way. Things may change after this trailer.
The first full trailer gives the world their first real look at Ant-Man’s unique power and skill-set. It looks like Marvel has delivered on the action-heist premise that they have been promising. Complete with comedic beats that are clearly taking jabs at the cliches of modern superhero movies. As well as mocking the bizarre premise at the heart of its own story. Despite the abundance of humor in the trailer, it still looks as if the action and spectacular special effects will be what defines this movie. While the Avengers are going to embark on a globe-trotting adventure to save the Earth in Age of Ultron, Ant-Man will be exploring the world right under our feet. Check it out!
Ant-Man will not be the movie that sets up Captain America: Civil War, but it will continue to broaden the scope of the Marvel cinematic universe by exploring its own history. The addition of Paul Rudd to the MCU is clearly a good move, as his banter and approach looks to be a perfect fit. Hope Van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, looks like she has first-hand experience with the Pym shrinking technology that her father created, alluding to her own superheroic future as the Wasp. Michael Douglas also seems to be having a blast and his dry wit may keep the film’s comedy from feeling overly campy, while simultaneously giving Ant-Man some needed heft and gravitas. There will be much more on this movie in the coming weeks so get ready!
