When The Blair Witch Project hit theaters fifteen years ago it was a sensational success. Young co-director Eduardo Sanchez tapped into a new area of the horror movie, the found-footage movie. What made millions flock to theaters was an uncertainty, at the time, whether or not what audiences were seeing was actually real. For others it was simply the heightened sense of realism that added to the movie-going experience. The fresh format along with a shocking ending, created a word-of-mouth sensation.
Sanchez is now revisiting familiar territory, albeit with a different threat. In his newest film Exists, young vacationers are terrorized by a Sasquatch. Typically Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, are portrayed as lumbering and elusive. There has only been one known encounter with a live Sasquatch in human history caught on film. Watch the footage to see how easily thwarted they are in real life:
With this in mind it may be hard for audiences to accept a more modern, menacing Bigfoot in theaters…or maybe they can change with the times. Who knows? The creature in this newest trailer however is fast, agile and strong…really strong. It looks like this will be a fun, B-movie thrill ride. Check out the trailer for Exists:
