Ever since fans got the chance to check out the proof of concept video that director Tim Miller and actor Ryan Reynolds created last year, fans have trusted that the creative team has a deep understanding of the character of Deadpool. The costume, spirit, and humor in the short film, all pointed to an eventual adaptation that would respect the unique flavor of the wise cracking assassin.
However, it had been widely assumed that the one concession that would have to be made, is the film’s rating. Deadpool is an uncompromisingly violent and mature comic. It would be possible to film it slightly toned down for a PG-13 rating, it just would not be truly authentic. A couple of months ago, Reynolds alluded to Deadpool having a smaller budget as being beneficial, because they get more freedom to make their own movie. Well it seems that the fanboys, including Ryan Reynolds himself, have won another small victory for the upcoming film. In a recent “interview,” posted to Reynolds’ official Twitter account and later retweeted by a Fox publicist, he finally confirms to EXTRA’s Mario Lopez, what the rating will be for Deadpool.
Following the release of the test footage and the recent comedic reveal of Deadpool’s new costume, this is yet another sign that the production is in good hands. It is also clear that we should expect a creative social media marketing campaign throughout the next year…that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We can’t wait to bring you the next bit of Deadpool news.
Deadpool opens February 12th, 2016.
