Yes, the world is turning upside and the Point of Geeks are indeed covering a Shakespearean drama. However there is always a method to the madness…
Director Justin Kurzel is at the helm of one of the most rebooted properties of all times, William Shakespeare’s MacBeth. Honestly, the film seems unnecessary until you see the visual wizardry and scope of Kurzel’s vision. From a close up of a tear, to the visceral battlefield action scenes, it is readily apparent that the movie has something new to add to the centuries old story. Namely the lead actor, Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
It’s a rite of passage for most serious actors to take on the archetypal role of Macbeth at some point in their career, either on film or on the stage. Fassbender’s reputation is steadily growing as one of the best actors of his generation. Proving to be adept at oscillating his acting choices between tentpole films and smaller dramas. Last year he made the hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, before transitioning into smaller fare this year such as Slow West and Jobs, before going big once again next year with X-Men: Apocalypse and Assassin’s Creed.
However, the real draw for genre fans will be seeing how Kurzel directs Fassbender and Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises) on-screen and what type of cinematic synergy the trio can create. The three have already re-teamed and are currently shooting the feature film adaptation of the hit video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed. (Click here for a first look at it.) It is clear from the trailer why Kurzel earned the right to direct the upcoming blockbuster. The game has an intrinsic visual beauty and every frame of the Macbeth trailer serves as proof, that he is the right guy for the job. Whether it is sunlight bleeding through a window, an epic vista, or gritty swordplay, there is certainly a strong eye behind the camera. This footage should make fans of the Animus get extremely excited for what is coming next year. Enjoy the trailer.
