Audiences have voiced their displeasure in Adam Sandler constantly casting his movies with the same cast of actors and comedians. It seems that he finally got the message. For his latest movie, Pixels, he dreamed big and traded in David Spade for Donkey Kong. The new science fiction comedy movie definitely got the better end of the deal…
Pixels is based on the short film of the same name from , that became a viral sensation. Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Home Alone) is at the helm of the big screen adaptation, where aliens attack the earth disguised as iconic video game characters from the 80’s. Sandler plays a former video game champion tasked with leading a bunch of misfits, including Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Josh Gad (Frozen), in a quest to save the world.
The thirty year wait to bring classic video game icons to the big-screen, such as Pacman and Donkey Kong, may be antidote to those adverse to the comedy of Sandler and James. Multiple generations are familiar with Pacman and the various legendary games that will be featured in the movie. Approaching Pixels as a comedic disaster film should turn out to be a wise decision, as it will create an opportunity to see these old relics from the 1980’s, in a different light.
