With all the attention going to Batman, Iron Man, and the Suicide Squad, James Bond has managed to stay under the radar, but yet stay relevant. With the mega-success of movies like Jurassic World and the Avengers: Age of Ultron, it is easy forget that in 2013, Skyfall grossed over a billion dollars worldwide without the additional bump of 3D ticket prices. The James Bond franchise is surprisingly strong in the age of superhero movies.
Sam Mendes (American Beauty) is back in the director’s chair along with Daniel Craig as Bond and it looks like they are bringing all the action that you would expect from a 007 movie. What surprised many people about Skyfall, is how Mendes managed to logically integrate many of the classic tropes and characters that the series was previously known for, back into the franchise. It seems that Spectre is a logical extension to the events of Skyfall. The mysterious origin of James Bond was explored in the last film and it looks as if another hidden chapter of his history will now be told.
Aside from the incredible action sequences that are glimpsed in the trailer, the addition of quality actors such as Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Monica Bellucci (Matrix Reloaded), and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) is another reason to put this movie on your radar. This film looks to serve as an origin story for the notorious Spectre organization that is led by the infamous, Blofeld. Waltz’s role in the movie has been shrouded in the level of mystery that would make John Harrison proud, but it’s hard to imagine him not being revealed as the legendary villain by the end. There is a lot to like from the trailer and hopefully we are getting the best 007 adventure yet. Enjoy.
Official Synopsis:
A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.
As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.
Spectre hits theaters on November 6th, 2015.
