Are you a Leonardo DiCaprio fan, who eagerly awaits every one of movies? Or do you despise his playboy lifestyle and secretly wish you can see him be mauled by a bear? Well it looks like this is a rare occurrence where everyone gets what they want at the movies.
After dominating the Oscars last year with his brilliant film Birdman, Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores Perros, Babel) returns with an even more ambitious turn behind the camera. His latest film, The Revenant, tells an unbelievable story of survival and revenge with a cast that is able to match Iñárritu’s ambition. DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, an explorer in early America who gets separated from his crew during an expedition, after getting attacked by a bear and left for dead. Glass faces the fight of his life against the elements, wildlife, and more. He then goes on the hunt for revenge against those who left him to die including Tom Hardy, Domnhall Gleeson, and Will Poulter.
The movie is getting additional buzz because of Iñárritu’s decision to shoot the daytime scenes using only natural light. It’s hard to doubt the decision after seeing only a single frame of Emmanuel Lubezki’s (Gravity, Birdman) cinematography. The movie looks totally immersive, as if you are looking into a window at early America. This is only the teaser, but even this short look shows the entire crew’s commitment to the world that was created. DiCaprio and Hardy reuniting after Inception, and facing off against each other, sounds like a like a can’t miss. And if that isn’t enough, you can always watch Leo fight a bear…
