Mad Max is definitely back. Fury Road proved that the world that George Miller created still resonates as much as when he originally conceived it, in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The latest movie was as interactive an experience as can be had in movie theaters in 2015, which has left a rejuvenated fan base looking forward to the future adventures of Max Rockatansky.
There is a sequel to Fury Road in development, however wouldn’t it be nice to find something that could hold you over until then? Well, Avalanche Studios is looking to expand the Mad Max universe in their new videogame and it looks like it has captured the spirit of Miller’s world. And if it is as fun to play as it looks, well what a lovely day it will be when it is released.
The game boasts a robust gameplay system that combines RPG elements, with flat out four-wheeled action. The producers have boasted that 60% of the action is car based, while the hand-to-hand action will implement a similar feel as the Batman Arkham series. The player’s car, the Magnum Opus, has the ability to be fully customized, from the fenders to the flamethrowers. So get ready to stretch the boundaries of what an automobile can be.
The game has had its share of challenges and roadblocks during the production process, with its original release date delayed over a year due to quality control concerns. While the PS3 version was scrapped all together because it didn’t have the horsepower to carry the complex game engine. That type of ambition is a good sign for fans of action gaming, since Avalanche seems to be holding themselves to their own high standards. While it takes more than impressive graphics and inventive action to make a good videogame, it’s a good start. After geeks had the movie experience of the year with Mad Max: Fury Road, if the game can come close to replicating the energy of the film, we could all be in for a treat. We will find out soon. Enjoy the trailer.
Mad Max rolls onto the scene on September 1st, 2015.
