Many say that the superhero genre has replaced the western in movie theaters today. The wild west was once thought of as the next frontier for man to conquer and the land went as far as 19th century imaginations would allow. However in modern times, our collective imagination has been stretched farther than ever before. Stories used to be about farmers who found out they had hidden abilities as a gunslinger. Now stories focus on people who find out that they are inhuman and can shoot beams out of their eyes. Practically the same stories, with a new spin to satiate today’s idea of the next frontier. 

It is only fitting that two future stars of X-Men: Apocalypse, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Michael Fassbender, take to the wild frontier and put their spin on the old west in Slow West. It is unknown if they will be sharing any scenes in Bryan Singer’s upcoming mutant disaster epic, but they certainly seem to get well acquainted in the upcoming western. The film is written and directed by newcomer John Maclean and made a little bit of noise at some early screenings last year. It looks to be an interesting combination of drama, surrealism, dark humor, and good old-fashioned shoot outs. Enjoy the trailer.

Official Synopsis:

Set in late 19th Century Colorado and centering on a young man’s epic search for the love of his life. The exceptional cast includes Michael Fassbender as Silas Selleck, a mysterious and inscrutable stranger acting as the paid protector to sixteen-year-old Scottish aristocrat Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is on a reckless journey through the American Wild West. Ben Mendelsohn crosses their paths as Payne, the leader of an intimidating posse of outlaws on their journey to find Rose Ross (newcomer Caren Pistorius) the humble farmer’s daughter who fled from Jay’s life.
