For a period of time in the 1980’s there was no star bigger than Pee-Wee Herman. A man-child character created from the mind of actor/comedian Paul Reubens that went on to be a star in numerous platforms including the stage, on television in Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, and on the big-screen in the Tim Burton’s screwball classic, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.
The character has gone from super-stardom, to disgrace and obscurity, and finally back to glory on the stage again in recent years. Well, thanks to Netflix and producer Judd Apatow, Pee-Wee is getting his long awaited sequel. This time around he’s going on a roadtrip with Magic Mike’s Joe Maganiello and hopefully, he will be able to rekindle the magic that made the character shine in the 80’s.
The movie is directed by John Lee (Inside Amy Schumer), who has pointed out the movie’s improvisational feel and loosely plotted story. Hopefully, this approach lends itself to more comedic moments reminisencent of the 1985 classic and less of the disastrous Big Top Pee-Wee. Regardless, thank the Netflix gods that we even get a chance to see this ridiculousness. Enjoy the trailer.
