WATCH: Professor X and Harry Potter in the VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN Trailer as the Doctor and Igor

It’s hard to complain about seeing a third actor in the Spider-Man tights, when we have gotten endless movies about Dracula, Peter Pan, Tarzan, and long list of other movies based on novels that are in the public domain. These stories have been repeatedly told for over a hundred years, yet there are rarely complaints about “reboots.” There is a reason. If the movie has a unique perspective and is executed well, it can actually add to the language of storytelling, despite being an old tale at its root. (Are you taking notes Marvel?) Later this year, we are getting another retelling of the Frankenstein story, which was originally written in 1818, with Victor Frankenstein.

Victor Frankenstein looks to be adding a new wrinkle to the familiar horror tale. They have cast James McAvoy (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series), as Dr. Victor Frankenstein and his assistant Igor, in what amounts to an action-buddy comedy, with dashes of horror. Radcliffe seems to be playing Igor straight, it will be interesting to see if he will change into the more monstrous version of the character over the course of the movie. While McAvoy looks like he is straddling the line between having a good time on set and being plain campy.

It looks like they may be taking a cue from Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes series by keeping the period setting, but modernizing the feel and contrivances of the world. The footage shows that the movie has a lively spirit and is at least trying something new. Will it work? Probably not. But check out the trailer anyway!

Official Synopsis:

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.

Victor Frankenstein opens on November 25th, 2015.
