This year is shaping up to be a seminal one for comic book movies and their devoted fans. It started with the blockbuster success of Deadpool, continued with this month’s release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the fun will not stop there with the release of Captain America: Civil War in early May. Later that month will be the release of the latest X-Men sequel Apocalypse, which will see the band of mutants face their biggest threat yet.
X-Men: Apocalypse brings back the entire cast of Days of Future Past, in an epic battle on a scale that the franchise has not seen yet. Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina) joins the film as the god-like Apocalypse, a mutant whose origin dates back to ancient Egypt. The powerful villain awakens after a thousand year slumber and is not happy about the way things have changed in his absence. The movie looks to be heavily influenced by the “Age of Apocalypse” story from the comics, which was one of the most popular runs from the 90’s.
Director Bryan Singer has gone on record as saying that this will be the most cataclysmic X-Men movie yet. It’s reported to have a scale that is larger than anything seen before in the universe and the latest footage seems to support the claims. Today the second full-length trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse dropped, showing off the epic action and nearly completed special effects for the ninth film (including Deadpool) in Fox’s X-Men universe. We also get a glimpse of the Egyptian, and possibly alien technology, that births the villainous Apocalypse. With more than two months to go, there is a lot to be excited about. Enjoy the trailer!
Official Synopsis:
Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” director Bryan Singer returns with “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27th, 2016.
