There hasn’t been this amount of goodwill towards an upcoming Adam Sandler movie in decades. Of course when dealing with the anticipation of Sandler’s movies, you definitely have to judge it with a sliding scale. However, his latest offering Pixels, has more to offer than just the usual Sandler fart jokes or Kevin James’ pratfalls. It has Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, James’ pratfalls, AND Sandler’s fart jokes too! (Okay, to be fair there aren’t any fart jokes in the trailer, but you know that they are coming.)
Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) directed the upcoming action-comedy, which is another reason that many are giving the movie a chance to do something fun. The visual effects are lively and the draw of seeing a 1980’s arcade come to life, will inevitably be an event worth seeing for many. It seems like the perfect popcorn movie, where parents can take their kids and relive their own childhood in the process. Or it can be the exact moment when they realize that they are too old for this s***.
The second trailer digs deeper into the plot of the movie and gives character descriptions for each of the main cast including Sandler, Josh Gad (Frozen), and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones). Each of the assembled old-school gamers has a video game specialty, including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, and more. While there is still a lot of footage from the first trailer, they have included a lot more of the video game action that we can expect to see in the film. Enjoy!
Official Synopsis:
As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults — and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
Pixels releases in theaters on June 24th, 2015.
