Once it was announced that Zack Snyder and the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be making a saturday appearance at San Diego Comic Con, the countdown began in anticipation of new footage being seen. Snyder has a history of setting Hall H on fire. Most notably when he debuted the trailers for 300 and Watchmen to ecstatic crowds, which trended well after the clips ended. It looks like his track record holds up with SDCC trailer debuts, because the newest look at Dawn of Justice looks almost too good to be true.
The revelation that Bruce Wayne was in Metropolis at the time of Zod’s attack adds layers to Man of Steel, that shows exactly how Snyder intends on interweaving his superhero universe. If nothing else this new interpretation of Batman and Superman stands out from versions that have come before on-screen. Seeing the murder of Thomas Wayne even feels fresh despite seeing it in several previous incarnations, which indicates that there will be a new interpretation of superheroics as well. How incredible is that shot of Wayne running full speed towards a crashing skyscraper?
After showing a single still shot of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman at last years Comic Con, we get to see the legendary superhero in action for the first time and it almost looks worth the wait. Almost…That was a really long wait…
We even get a brief introduction to Lex Luthor and kryptonite, new additions to the cinematic mythos. It looks as if Luthor will sport that tragic mop on his head for a lot of the film, until tragedy inevitably strikes his dome. More importantly, the motivations for the characters, story, and scope, all seem to come together and make sense for why these to titans could come to blows. But if you look at it closely, Superman clearly is going easy on the very human Batman. Even letting him pounce on his chest like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. What a guy! Enjoy the trailer.
