People wonder what the craze about San Diego Comic Con is all about. It’s the connection and mutual celebration of fandom, right alongside the people that are creating the magic. These SDCC panels have spawned moments that will always be remembered in geek history. Most will never forget when the Avengers first assembled on stage in person, Andrew Garfield showed up in Spider-Man pajamas, or even last year when fans were treated to a clip from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice almost two years before its release. Last night the Star Wars panel led by J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and the entire cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, put on a literal show for the thousands in attendance.
Fans of the Star Wars series were anxiously anticipating what actors would be appearing in the panel. It turns out all of the major ones appeared, including Harrison Ford, who seemed genuinely happy and grateful to be there. (Make sure to listen for Oscar Isaac’s story about asking Ford for advice on flying in Star Wars. Classic Harrison Ford material.) The panel overall was a visual blend of old and new, as it is more clear than ever that The Force Awakens will be handing the baton, or lightsaber, to the next generation.
Make sure to stay through until the end, when Abrams and Kennedy reveal their special treat. The thousands in the auditorium all walked outside while being escorted by Stormtroopers, to a full symphony concert of Star Wars music and fireworks. It really is a treat to behold for Star Wars fans all over. Enjoy!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18th, 2015.
