There has been a lot of buzz about Brad Bird’s upcoming film, Tomorrowland. Much of it is based on a sneak peek that many saw at last year’s New York Comic Con, where an extended clip was screened. However, Disney has shown very little in their U.S. marketing so far, in fear of spoiling the film’s secrets. With the movie a little more than a month away from release, the final trailer shows why this movie may be more fun than we are expecting.
Tomorrowland is based on the section in the Disneyland theme park that goes by the same name. Without going into spoilers, the movie does explore the secret worlds that exist in the theme park, along with the “magic” behind Disneyland. It is easy to be skeptical of the source material, however the success of Disney’s adaptation of the boring Pirates of the Caribbean ride is now a multi-billion dollar movie franchise, so there is a precedent. It’s hard to bet against the Mouse House nowadays and they have assembled another great team for Tomorrowland, including director Bird (The Incredibles, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and George Clooney (Batman & Robin).
The newest trailer gives a better sense of scale and shows that the stakes are higher than has been previously shown. The action is relentless and judging from Bird’s filmography, we should expect some creative sequences and uses of the futuristic environment. However, most importantly Tomorrowland looks like an unexpected adventure…and those are always the best kind. Enjoy.
