WATCH: The First Full Trailer for the FANTASTIC FOUR and Things We Uncovered [UPDATED]

If Las Vegas ever starts a betting line on superhero movies, you could walk away a very rich person by putting some money down on the Fantastic Four reboot. At the beginning of the year, the Marvel Comics’ would have had 100 to 1 odds, however with each new look the movie slowly moves from underdog to contender. Today, Fox released the first official full-length trailer for the new reimagined Fantastic Four and it is more than encouraging. While it lacks the score and heavy tone of the teaser trailer, it makes a point to show that the upcoming movie will have drama, action, comedy, and gravitas.

The trailer is clearly trying to highlight the humor and familiar Fantastic Four elements from the comics that many have seemed to assume would be missing. It begins with Reed Richards’ concern and guilt over exposing his new “family” to the horrific mutations that they have to endure. His single-minded focus on developing a cure for the quartet does become an obsession in comics and is fertile material for Miles Teller to pull from.

Johnny Storm and his father Franklin, despite the obvious, feel pulled directly from the pages of the comics. They have even taken the time to add the little details like Johnny’s (Michael B. Jordan) passion for cars and his tendency to not take things seriously, at the most serious of times. Although she was highlighted in the teaser trailer, Kate Mara, for better or worse felt invisible in the trailer…This is also the most in-depth look at Jamie Bell’s portrayal of Ben Grimm that we have gotten yet. We didn’t get any dialogue with him as the Thing, which should also be a huge point of drama and tragedy for the movie once he begins to emote.

We also get our first look at Toby Kebbell’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. Despite an outcry from the fanboy nation over Kebbell’s early description of the role, he does seem comic book accurate and Dr. Storm’s warnings sound as though they should be heeded. Also the first words of dialogue spoken in the trailer are by Tim Blake Nelson, who plays Harvey Elder. Comic book fans might recognize him by his other name, Mole Man, the Fantastic Four’s first foe in the comics and a certain nemesis in the eventual sequel. Combine this with what screenwriter Simon Kinberg said earlier about the X-Men universe and the Fantastic Four world might be expanding sooner than we think. Enjoy the trailer.
