WATCH: The First Look at Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON

Disney has already firmly left their mark on a burgeoning genre that they have spearheaded, by adapting their classic animated movies for live-action. We have already seen smash-hits such as Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella, not only come to life, but also become huge successes at the box-office due to their colorful settings and familiar nostalgic beats. The Jungle Book has buzz that continues to grow exponentially, as the Disney movie looks to be one of the better movies to releasing this spring. With the extreme success of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, it’s clear why Disney would put a priority on this property. If Disney is able to capture the same exhilaration of flight and the magic of the creature, they may have a blockbuster on their hands.

It’s clear that Disney has more than one trick up its sleeve as it attempts to bring another of its classic properties to the big screen. The Jungle Book debuts in April and then the next adaptation will be Pete’s Dragon this August. The movie stars Bryce Dallas Howard and screen legend Robert Redford, about Pete, a feral boy who has been raised in the wild by a guardian dragon. While the animated film isn’t quite regarded on the same pedestal as movies like Dumbo, Pinocchio, or Cinderella, it does have significance within the Disney library. This brief teaser gives us a glimpse at the main characters and even of the mythical dragon at the center of the story. Enjoy the trailer.

Official Synopsis:

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.

Pete’s Dragon opens on August 12th, 2016.
