WATCH: The Full Trailer for THE PEANUTS MOVIE Looks Like Fun

The third time is the charm. The first two teaser trailers for The Peanuts Movie alerted audiences that a feature was on the way and that it would have a rich visual palette that was respectful of Charles Schultz’s original animation style. Blue Sky Studios, the animation company behind the Ice Age series, recently released the first full-length trailer for the new movie. And it should put a smile on the faces of long-time fans of the property. The gang is all back and it looks like it will be fun.

The Peanuts was a comic strip that debuted in 1950 by legendary cartoonist Charles Schultz. The strip centered around Charlie Brown and his neighborhood of childhood friends…and of course his lovably independent dog Snoopy too. The strip focused on everyday life for a kid, however the content carried strong social themes that an adult could understand and appreciate. The Peanuts wasn’t overt, but the strip and subsequent TV shows, featured images and stories with unspoken gender and racial equality that were ahead of its time. The strip was then adapted into 2D animation and classic holiday specials were spawned, featuring a trademark jazz soundtrack and score. Unfortunately in 2000, Charles Schultz retired the strip and while the characters have lived on in amusement parks, merchandising, and reruns, the most current generation may not be as familiar with the iconic characters. Plus…who reads the newspaper anymore?

The newest trailer gives an idea of the plot and tone of the first feature film about Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and his neighborhood full of colorful characters. Many of the situations should be familiar to those familiar with the comic strip and animated features. It is admirable how much respect is clearly being given to Schultz’s original vision of The Peanuts. Perhaps that is because the story and screenplay were created by his son and grandson. It seems that they have found a modern way to hook audiences into the characters by taking Charlie Brown, the perpetual underdog, and use his plight as an analogy for bullying. It is hard to imagine that this movie will not be a huge success this winter. As the combination of old elements and new, look like to be a fun time with a huge blast of nostalgia. Enjoy the trailer.

Official Synopsis:

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Charlie Brown, the world’s most beloved underdog, embarks upon an epic and heroic quest, while his best pal, the lovable beagle Snoopy, takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.

The Peanuts Movie is set to be released on December 6th, 2015.
