In June, Jurassic World had the single biggest opening weekend in movie history, with over $208 million dollars. The following week Pixar released their animated film, Inside Out, which broke records itself when it opened to over $90 million dollars. Pixar’s next movie, The Good Dinosaur, will be set during prehistoric times and it doesn’t take a mathematician to calculate that putting together dinosaurs with Pixar’s trademark storytelling, will lead to box-office gold.
The Good Dinosaur tells an alternate history where the meteor that struck the Earth leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs, narrowly missed the planet. The movie follows a dino named Arlo who forms an unlikely friendship with a human. The two then go on a journey together through the prehistoric outlands full of danger, laughter, and a tear or two. The story seems straightforward and honestly it doesn’t really feel like a Pixar movie from the trailer. However, there is plenty of time before its release for this movie to separate itself from the pack.
It’s hard to go without noticing the lush visuals. The computer imagery is so impressive that some of the plant life and vistas, look almost photorealistic. This comes in contrast with the cartoonish features of the two leads. The character models are surprisingly simple, which may be in an effort to not scare young kids. The Good Dinosaur looks to be a combination of films such as Pete’s Dragon and The Land Before Time and hopefully much like Inside Out, there is much more to this movie than is being shown. Enjoy!

The Good Dinosaur opens on November 25th, 2015.
