WATCH: “The Future is a Fix” in the Mind-Altering Trailer for NARCOPOLIS

This has been a standout year for science fiction at the movies, with films of all sizes delivering in both quality and spectacle. Whether it was the popcorn fun of Jurassic World, the combination of subtext and manic action of Mad Max: Fury Road, or the cautionary tale Ex Machina, this was a great year for sci-fi. Well, it looks like we have another movie that is looking to join the party.

Narcopolis is set to be released next month from Altitude Films. The story follows a burnt out detective who becomes involved in a sinister underworld, after the investigation of a mysterious death uncovers a next-level narcotic and a sinister underworld. The upcoming futuristic thriller imagines a world where drugs are completely legalized and the far-reaching effects that a new designer drug has on its users. Clearly first-time feature director Justin Trefgarne, will be using the sci-fi trappings to explore some murky real world issues, while hopefully delivering some high stakes tension and action.

The movie stars Elliot Cowan (Luther) in the leading role of Frank Grieves. Fans of Marvel should get excited to know that they can get their latest look at the new Elektra, Elodie Yung, in the upcoming movie as well. After making an impression in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Yung has slowly been marching up the Hollywood ladder and is sure to make a mark when she goes head to head with Matt Murdock in the second season of Daredevil next year. But first she can be seen playing Eva Gray in Narcopolis. The movie also features Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean), Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones), and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) in supporting roles.

Official Synopsis:

Set in a future where all drugs are legal, this dazzling techno-thriller combines high-octane action with high-concept science fiction. While investigating a grisly overdose death, hard-boiled cop Frank Grieves (Elliot Cowan) gets drawn into a deadly conspiracy involving a lethal new super-drug and a shadowy mega-corporation. Conjuring a stunningly realized universe in which gritty violence unfolds in a sleek digital dystopia, Narcopolis is a propulsive, visually explosive head-trip.

Narcopolis will be released in theaters and VOD on October 2nd, 2015.
