Something just feels right about having the Muppets on the screen. Jim Henson’s creations have always had the unique ability to speak to both younger and older audiences. The characters had been missing from the pop culture landscape for many years until Jason Segal brought them back in 2011’s, The Muppets movie. The film managed to successfully balance the wonder and exuberance of the original show, along with a wink of nostalgia for the grownup viewers. The follow-up sequel, Muppets Most Wanted, failed to have the same balance of adult humor and fun as the previous installment and suddenly the film franchise began to lose steam.
It was announced last year that a new Muppets television show was in development for ABC. It seemed to be a project that wouldn’t see the light of day, however that is not the case. Despite having an all new format, the trailer looks really good! The Muppets is intended to parody mockumentary style television shows, such as The Office or Modern Family. This is evidenced by the single-camera set-up and the behind-the-scenes feel. It is actually an ingenious move, as the Muppets have always been used to spoof the state of the entertainment industry. Enjoy the trailer!
Official Synopsis:
The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages.
The Muppets will air this fall on Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
