In 1998, the video game industry was revolutionized and grew up in many ways when Metal Gear Solid was released on Playstation home consoles. The game introduced a stealth gameplay element that went against the rampant carnage that is generally associated with the industry. It was the third instalment in the Metal Gear series and no other franchise has come close to the combination of unique gameplay and cinematic storytelling that the series has trail-blazed.

There has been a very public divorce between the creator of the series Hideo Kojima and gaming giant Konami. It appears that this will be the last game in their decades long partnership. Yet another reason to get excited and to consider giving Metal Gear one more look, if you haven’t played it for a few installments. With that in mind, a large majority of this trailer is dedicated to recapping and honoring the games that have already laid the foundation for Kojima’s final adventure with Solid Snake. The latter half shows an action and strategy game that is worthy of the power of next-generation gaming. Metal Gear games have always had the scope and complexity of any adventure movie released in theaters and this trailer reflects those ambitions.
