WATCH: ‘The Leviathan’ Gets Greenlit Based on this Awesome Short Film

A few days ago director Ruairi Robinson posted his short film The Leviathan online and it quickly went viral. It’s a three minute adventure that feels like a futuristic Moby Dick and apparently it has impressed Fox Studios enough to make a movie out of it. Before you go on, you should definitely check it out.

Not much is known about the storyline for the feature project beyond the vague description provided in the short.

The project is set in the 22nd century, when mankind has colonized many worlds and traveling faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen.

Jim Uhls (Fight Club) is writing the screenplay under the guidance of executive producer Neill Blomkamp and producer Simon Kinberg. With talent like that already in place to usher the project into development, it is clear that the short film was more of a proof of concept, designed to build audience excitement. Well it worked. Robinson clearly has a strong eye for science fiction action, so this may be one to look out for.
