WATCH: The Second Trailer for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION Should Have Stayed Covert

The latest Mission Impossible movie has surprised casual onlookers at every turn. The fifth film in the series, that was originally adapted from the 1960’s television show, was originally scheduled to debut this winter within weeks of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Wiser heads prevailed and the release date was changed, which is an understandable business decision. However, almost everyone was shocked when it was moved up by almost six months to the summer season.

Mission Impossible films are custom-made for the summer and Tom Cruise has been consistently delivering the goods in terms of spectacle and thrilling real-life stunt work. The second full trailer for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation shows off a lot more of the action and fans can expect from the upcoming movie. However, it seems that this is the classic case of less is more. Most were already sold on the film based on Cruise hanging off of the side of a B-52 Bomber. This second trailer shows off a frantic and chaotic pacing that hopefully isn’t representative of the movie. Instead of explaining more of the plot and the anti-IMF squad that is thwarting the heroes’ plans, it focuses on more action beats and set pieces. Hopefully they are leaving some fun for when audiences are in their seats in July.

While Cruise as Ethan Hawke is the undeniable star of the franchise, much of the appeal of the series has always been the coordinated team effort between IMF agents and their varying specialties. It looks like the camaraderie still exists and the supporting cast is full of capable actors who should be able to carry even the smallest scenes. Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible 2), Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Jeremy Renner (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and new addition Alec Baldwin (Beetlejuice) round out the cast. While this trailer doesn’t do much to build on the excitement from the first trailer, it does still look like solid summer fun. Enjoy.

Official Synopsis:

In “Rogue Nation,” Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation will land in theaters July 31st, 2015.
