Horror movies are a dime a dozen. However, every now and then a movie comes a long that not only adds new elements to the genre, but fundamentally redefines the boundaries of what can be expected. In 2013, a film came along that impressed horror fans and casual viewers alike, with the surprise hit, The Conjuring.
Things have changed a lot for director James Wan since he first shocked the world with The Conjuring. He is no longer known as “that horror movie director,” as he made a certified blockbuster with Furious 7 and won the coveted job as the director of Warner Bros’ Aquaman movie, starring Jason Momoa. So it was a pleasant surprise for fans when he came back to one of the most critically acclaimed horror franchises in some time. His influence on the sequel is apparent even from this short teaser, with his trademark usage of lighting and dynamic camera movements.
The film moves from Rhode Island to across the pond to London this time. Real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by the returning doxycycline Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) and Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) respectively, are tasked with solving another haunting case from their files. The first movie was successful because while it definitely brought the scares, it always seemed to take the high ground and could be appreciated as a true film, not just a slasher flick. It looks like the second will bring the same level of quality. Check out the new teaser trailer.
