WATCH: The Trailer for DEADPOOL is Just as Insane as it Should Be

Last fall, fans of Marvel Comics got the news they have been waiting years to hear. Deadpool had been greenlit and was coming to theaters in 2016. Less than a year later we have our first full-fledged red-band trailer for the Merc with a Mouth. And it does not disappoint. The movie looks hardcore, balls-to-the-wall, and straight out of the pages of the comics. Clearly Fox made the right decision to let the character run free in his familiar, R-rated world.

It looks like Ryan Reynolds might be the perfect combination of superhero and actor, joining a list of others such as, Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr, who ultimately defined their respective superheros in live-action. Reynolds has been campaigning for the character to be done justice since his disastrous introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ultimately Deadpool will be more important to the film industry than it might appear at first.

The character was created by Rob Liefeld in 1991 and has had a meteoric rise in popularity since its inception. The new movie is a lock to become a cult classic film, but it is hard to judge how much of a draw the R-rated picture will be for general audiences. Deadpool is a post-modern take on the zany world of superheroes, it will be interesting to see if casual fans get the joke this February.

This first trailer gives audiences their first look at the tone and characters of the upcoming movie, while not giving much info about the plot. But it seems to deliver all of the trademark banter, ultra-violence, and fourth-wall breaking that fans have come to expect from the comedic assassin, without pulling its punchesWe also get our first look at Colossus, which is a visual confirmation of the fluidity between Fox’s Marvel properties and their intention to eventually include Deadpool in the mutants’ world.

T.J. Miller is also a standout and his presence signifies the type of free-wheeling, improvisational comedy that will surely carry the film. It seems that they have found that rare sweet spot for big action, yet delivering totally irreverent slapstick comedy, that only Matthew Vaughn has really perfected in recent years, in movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass. The best part about this trailer is knowing that we are only six months away from sitting in a theater, having Deadpool talk directly to us. How cool is that? Enjoy the trailer!

Official Synopsis:
