WATCH: The Trailer for GOOSEBUMPS Starring Jack Black as R.L. Stine

One of the most famous children book series of all-time is getting its chance to shine on the big screen. Goosebumps the horror book series written for kids, was a staple of children growing up in the 1990’s. Creator R.L. Stine’s creation spawned over sixty books and was read by millions around the world. A feature film for the Goosebumps property has been in development a long time. As far back as 1998, Tim Burton (Batman) was producing a film version of the book series. The movie has switched many hands since then, but there is finally a Goosebumps movie hitting later this year.

Instead of simply adapting one of Stine’s children books, the creative team have decided to go meta with the property. Jack Black will be playing the actual author of the Goosebumps series, R.L. Stine, however don’t expect the movie to have any biographical truth to it. He plays an over protective dad, whose daughter and new friend, accidentally release all the monsters from Stine’s stories that he had secretly been hiding within the books. The first trailer looks like a family adventure straight out of the 90’s, by combining familiar movies such as Jumanji and Monster Squad. There should be a lot of interest in the film based on the books alone, however it does seem like tone and feel may not capture the imagination of modern audiences. We will find out this fall. Check it out!

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Goosebumps will be released October 16th, 2015.
