The Walking Dead has survived as a hit show by consistently transforming itself, so both comic readers and long-time viewers were both kept on their toes. Sometimes viewers didn’t like the direction, like the extensive time spent on the farm in season 2, but more times than not the show delivers unexpected drama and action.
The events at the end of season five left the direction of the show open. Morgan, played by Lennie James, returns and joins the cast for the season and it looks as if there will be serious tension between him and Rick. These are two of the people the audience met at the very beginning of the series, it will be interesting to see how their psychology has twisted and adapted to the horrific conditions, over the course of past five seasons.
It appears that at least for the first half of the season, most of the time will be spent in and around the Alexandria safe-zone. It is also worth noting how prominently the show’s stars Rick, Daryl, Michonne, and Glenn, are highlighted. For a show that is willing to go for shocks, it is pretty safe to say that those four might get thrown threw the ringer, but won’t be killed anytime soon. They are truly being made to be the heart and soul of the The Walking Dead.
The zombies look to have an advanced level of decay, indicating how much time has passed since the initial outbreak. Aside from the pending herd of zombies, it seems that much of the real threat will be with the humans inside and outside of the walls. There is a sense of building tension, with a false sense of security behind the barriers of Alexandria, that look to come crashing down before the end of the season. Enjoy the trailer.
The Walking Dead returns October 11th, 2015.
