WATCH: The Trailer for the Alien Body-Snatcher Movie THE 5TH WAVE

One of the biggest human fears is of the monster that is lurking within those that are closest to you. This is a major source of tension in espionage and horror movies, which have provided thrills for decades. In the 50’s, Invasion of the Body Snatchers was one of the earliest times that sci-fi movies brought the human fear to popular culture. Next year Sony will try to bring back the sub-genre in full force with their upcoming sci-fi movie, The 5th Wave.

Chloe Grace Moretz stars in the upcoming alien invasion movie, where the invaders have a unique plan of attack. They plan to conquer the planet in five waves, that start with a worldwide EMP strike which takes out the world’s electronics. The second wave consists of giant tidal waves that were created by the aliens. The third wave was the release of disease and infection to the remaining population. The fourth wave was the aliens infiltrating the general population in human disguise, where they begin kidnapping children. And the fifth wave is chronicled during the course of the movie.

It is based on the young adult sci-fi book series created by Rick Yancey in 2013. Moretz plays Cassie Sullivan, a teenager who has managed to survive the post-apocalyptic holocaust, yet decides to risk it all to save her brother. The film will be released in January which is typically a prime spot for surprise hits. However, it will be released in the shadow of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so we will see if this has the ability to find its audience. Check out the trailer.
