Apparently the CW network is doubling down on DC Comics and taking one step closer to being the flagship network for superheroes. CW has always targeted younger viewers, but in the past few seasons they have found a way to crack the code and expand their material to a wider audience, with the help of a few costumed crusaders.
The next show to join the growing DC television universe is Legends of Tomorrow. The show stars Atom (Brandon Routh), Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), Hawkgirl (Ciarra Renee), White Canary (Caity Lotz), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh), Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). The first season will be a thirteen episode run, which is a good indication that we will get a lean, linear storyline.
Arrow was a grounded, street-level look at vigilantism. While The Flash embraces the fantastic side of the comics, along with warm heart and character moments. From the looks of the trailer, Legends of Tomorrow will be an all-out epic comic book brawl. It almost feels like a Saturday morning cartoon come to life.
The heavy presence of the Flash and Arrow is not surprising, as you should expect to see them, as well as their entire roster of supporting characters appearing frequently. Many questioned what this show could offer that The Flash isn’t already. The answer is simple… Producers Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim, and Greg Berlanti are aiming to make the TV version of The Avengers..or Justice League if you will, every week. It’s both ambitious and ridiculous, but from the the looks of the trailer it just might work.
Comic book geeks all over the world will get excited at the prospect of the team going up against the immortal Vandal Savage. He is one of the larger DC universe villains to not get a proper live-action treatment. Lotz is confirmed as White Canary and will return to life via the Lazarus Pit. While Atom has finally figured out his shrinking technology. We also get a few looks of Hawkgirl in flight. It also should be noted that we don’t get a reveal of Drameh’s character, Jay Jackson. His name is not recognizable, so many assume that his true comic book identity has yet to be revealed. Most of the speculation points to him becoming Cyborg, or even Kid Flash. We no longer have to look for reasons to get excited about this show, it’s all in the trailer. Enjoy!
