The biggest surprise of the year for superhero television has been The Flash hands down. The DC comic book features brightly colored costumes, alternate realities, and talking gorillas, while the TV series’ showrunners have not written around the fantastic elements, but attacked them head on. While still layering the show with a human heart and warmth that could not have been expected.
The show has been on a short break as it gears up to deliver the end of the first season in a spectacular way. Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kingsman: The Secret Service) returns to the role of the Trickster, the role he played on the original The Flash TV show in the early 90’s. Plus, it is an added joy to hear the legendary voice of The Joker scream, “Run, run, run, run!” The most surprising reveal is that they are including actual footage from the previous show in the episode. Will we find out that the 90’s show actually happened in another timeline? It gets pretty meta, particularly when you consider that Allen’s father, John Wesley Shipp, actually played the Flash against Hamill’s Trickster.
Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has found out that time travel is possible and that he will confront the killer of his mother eventually. The show and Allen’s powers are about to make a dramatic leap that will test what viewer’s will accept from the series. We can’t wait to see how all of the comic book elements will be translated for TV. Enjoy the trailer.
Fans of the show should be happy to hear that The Flash has already been picked up for a second season. The season finale is scheduled for May 19th and it is poised to be a special event.
