Who would have thought that we would be getting a National Lampoon’s Vacation sequel that genuinely looks funny? It seems that there is the perfect balance of nostalgia, tongue-in-cheek humor, and full out ridiculous hilarity to make this comedy a standout.
The approach to the movie is what is making it so appealing. Instead of rebooting the franchise, they simply gave it a sequel thirty years later. Ed Helms looks like he has caught a little of The Hangover magic and combined it with Chevy Chase’s trademark naivete for something special. However, this trailer makes it clear that this will be an ensemble comedy, with every family member contributing to the adult humor. The inclusion of Chase, Chris Hemsworth, and the world’s most abusive and foul-mouthed little brother, also looks to be the perfect blend of absurd comedy that has created blockbusters in the past.
A lot more attention is being paid to the movie recently. It was recently announced that the directors of Vacation, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, would be writing the screenplay for the rebooted Spider-Man movie for Marvel and Sony. Comedy and humor is at the heart of almost every Marvel Studios production, so their selection of writers shouldn’t be a huge surprise. However, it is worth examining if they are able to craft a solid story as well. Regardless, Vacation looks like fun and it will be out next week! Enjoy the trailer!
